08-07-04, 05:59 AM
According to Slashdot, expected to only be open to line-toeing cyber cafes and CZ owners (http://games.slashdot.org/games/04/07/08/0131223.shtml?tid=127&tid=186&tid=204&tid=206)
Also, a back up thread and answer from no less than Gabe Newell himself is located here, giving the beta size and date that it will be preloading thru Steam!
So do all CZ owners get a copy of the beta then??? :?: :?:
Internet Cafes then CZ owners apparantly.

Trying going to the home page, finding the [LNY] CS Clan Menu section on the left and clicking on the [LNY] below the EnemyDown image, members is in the drop down list.
I don't have permission!!

You don't have permission to do what? It's a public page on Enemy Down?

Not the forum, the logo halfway down the screen on the homepage.
Oh. Got it.

HalfLifeSource has a first hand account of CS:S playtesting (http://www.halflifesource.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=9703)
Assuming it comes out first, it might even tempt me into playing CS again ;)

Maaaan, it tempts me to buy Condition Zero just to play it.
It will also be rolled out to those who have a Half Life 2 Voucher gained when you bought a 9600/9800XT GFX Card.......see

CS:Source beta pre-loading to cyber cafes (http://www.steampowered.com/index.php?area=news&id=109209630458194500), CS:CZ and voucher owners will get it later in the month

If you're really keen there are some cyber cafes in the UK (http://www.steampowered.com/?area=cafe_directory&country=UK) that have the CS:Source beta, or should do by now....
Wow, I just watched the footage from PC Zones DVD and I have to say, this does look pretty amazing. I love one part where someone gets shot with a Deagle and gets blown backwards over a wall
Source beta is here - it's now downloading on my steam - get busy people!
oh yeah - there is also a DoD update
it takes up 366mb on yer HD - haven't had a chance to play it yet - finishing off the patio :-(
Oh yeah - you download it today and it becomes playable tomorrow (they say) so no chance to play it yet anyway...

Downloading it now :D
As you might expect, I think there's a bit of a rush on the download servers... I tried a couple of times before it let me have it. Also, it says it is only active from tomorrow (my day off  ) and for a limited time. I would guess when it stops being available as the beta though, it would very shortly be available as the actual product :)
Well - I'm at work today so no chance of playing CS;S - the link on Steam says that the Beta is now playable to all voucher holders and CS;CZ owners, and I'm off to London tonight with work so will have about 5 mins to play it! Doh! :(
Link here (http://www.steampowered.com/index.php?area=news)
 OMG
Cover me, I'm going in!
We need a full report McB - so get typing!!!!! and don't spare the horses!!!!
Well, first off there is another download, I've got 15 more minutes to wait to get in :(
Godamn! I may pull asicky to get off work and get home and start playing!!!! Any ideas?
"I'm too well to be at work?"
" Goldfish dying?"
Come on then McB - any good???

We want screenshots too! :)
Hmm, I thought I was taking screenshots...I had a key bound and everything... but nothing is there :?
Anyway, FRICKIN FANTASTIC!
I joined a server with almost 20 people on, and a timelimit of only 2 minutes and while this was rather crazy action, almost all rounds timed out before a winner was decided, so I moved to a 16 man server and things were a little more back to normal.
The graphics are fantastic, it is just how I had dreamed CS could look like (well, I've never dreamed about it, but you know what I mean). The only map playable at the moment is dust, but I found myself just looking at it sometimes, seeing all the little details they've added to what is a very old map, but looks so different.
The rag-doll physics are great, lots of blood spurting too. Lots of things in the map are moveable. Oil drums can be pushed or shot about, cans and containers look great as you unleash your P90 on them and watch them fly. A few times I got shot, caught playing with things in the map
Flash bangs are great. Screen goes white, your ears ring and then it gradually fades back in, initially with whatever you were looking at last, which fades through to what you are now looking at. Very effective
Throwing grenades takes a little getting used to, they seem to be thrown very quickly, I don't think you can pull the pin and hold them like you used to be able to.
All in all, very impressive 8-)
I was playing this earlier and had a really good review going and then lost it all when my graphics went screwy - I blame the beta ATI drivers, so I;m afraid I will just have to agree with McB, adding that at the end of one round I was watching a bottle being blown around by the wind.
there are LOTs of visual goodies :-)
I was stood in the dark area at one point when I noticed there were actually specs of dust floating around in the air!!!
Screenies pls! Have to wet my appetite..........pls! :-)

People aren't really playing the game too seriously at the moment - most are shooting things to see how they react :-)
19-08-04, 01:47 PM
I don't think I'll ever get out of that phase  ;)
19-08-04, 02:54 PM
wow, sounds and looks wicked. What are the min specs for it?
19-08-04, 05:25 PM
Why, Why didnt i buy CS:CZ, better check the magic kazz :P
One site says for HL2 which should be the same thing:
Valve announce minimum specs for Half-Life 2 ...Gaming

The first indications of the system we'll need to play Valve's update to their best selling shooter has been released. As we previously reported, Valve will be running a public beta this autumn for the update to Counter-Strike, which will use the game engine of the eagerly awaited HL2.
On the official Steam site under the beta's FAQ's a minimum spec has been announced for the machine that will be needed to play this update:
Tbh, anyone with a sub 1mhz CPU should have been thinking about an upgrade for about the last year... :?
And so the war/self-promotion between games writers and processor manufacturers continues.
Just think in 10 years time we could be running quantum computers running at 15Ghz and still complaining that Doom 6 was slow.
Oh yeah - forgot to mention the video stress test feature as well - you get to see some very pretty video effects and then you get a framerate (mine is 98.8 i think) and valve get an idea of their customer hardware.

<snip>...and still complaining that Doom 6 was slow.
unless it's a damn sight more of an improvement than doom3 was over doom2 then i'll be complaining that it's shit, never mind slow...
