There is quite a lot of discussion on other forums about whether the ranks system is a good idea or not. Some are saying it doesn't really rank people, it just shows how long they have been playing. Others comment on how it makes people head off on their own in search of medals, ribbons or more points, rather than playing as a member of a squad.

I have to say, the later applies to me sometimes. At the moment I'm trying to get my Basic Air Defense by shooting down planes and helicopters. To do this, I am generally sitting in an AA gun when there are probably much better things to be doing... :?

I think they're a good thing just coz it makes the game more fun........there is more objectives and things and helps you become a well balanced player.....but then again it doesn't really help the team out does it?

Therefore....then again if you play online in a CS Source server no-one plays as a team on that either.....

So just for the fact having detailsed stats and objectives.....a good thing

I like the rank system as I think it rewards more for the teamwork as well okay I could sit there and snipe all day long but in the end that would mean I am defending one flag, so not to bad a thing

Yeah but when I get the game I don't want to join a server full of troops with the extra power guns (Or am missing the point of getting promted?)

So far, maybe 15% of the people on servers have reached the point that they can unlock 1 new gun. I've used the Assault kit upgraded gun, and I didn't really notice that much difference tbh...

from what i can tell there isnt many ranked servers you can actually use the new guns on anyways. Is it just time played that unlocks the guns or something else?

DYK, you can unlock the weapons on your own server by editing a config file!

Yes, but then you risk getting 'de-listed' from EA's server lists... which will make it even harder to fill an un-ranked server :(
