As the title - what (in your opinion!) is the greatest song - ever...

I'm thinking that a top 5 is probably a good idea.

Suicidal tendencies: Alone.
Album: Lights...Camera...Revolution!
Suicidal tendencies: How will I laugh tomorrow (when I can't even smile today)
Album: How will I laugh tomorrow
Metallica: One
Album: ...And Justice for all
Megadeth: In my darkest hour
Album: So Far, So Good... So What
Anthrax: I am the law
Album: Among The Living

And there we also have my 5 favourite albums of all time - pretty much ;)

Erm, its tricky, cause I would probably tell you 5 different tracks each time you ask. There are three I can pick out right now as being 'significant' to me and probably be in the list each time -

'One' - U2
'Wonderwall' - Oasis
'Hypnotise' - Notorious BIG

After that, I think I would have to go with Puff Daddy and 'I'll Be Missing You' Granted, its a bit of a rip off, but a fantastic track all the same.

I guess another one I'd like to give credit too is 'Waterfalls' by TLC, anther great track.

Have to confess that the 'top 5 ever' all tend to date from my late teens, they are all songs I 1st heard somewhere between the ages of 15 and 19.) Dunno why, but as such they are fairly constant...

Not sure I know One by U2 *rushes off to look it up* Oh having read the lyrics yeah I know that. The U2 track I've always liked is: Sunday Bloody Sunday, which kicks some mean ass ;) There are others, but that (for me) is their stand out, but that's the great thing about lists like this - One mans meat is another mans poison.

In no particular order:

Master of Puppets - Metallica - Album: Master of Puppets
Lone Justice - Anthrax - Album: Spreading the Disease
2 Minutes to Midnight - Iron Maiden - Album: Powerslave
Boogie No More - Molly Hatchet - Album: Double Trouble Live
Raining Blood - Slayer - Album: Reign in Blood

The same as Scoobs - all these are from the mid 80's when I was a teenager.

I also had a look at my most played tracks on Itunes and none of the above were in the top 5 (in fact the highest was 2 Minutes to Midnight at #19). The top 5 are:

Duality - Slipknot
Girl All the Bad Guys Want - Bowling for Soup
Sacred Heart - Dio
747 (Stangers in the Night) - Saxon
Hell Bent for Leather - Judas Priest

Girl All the Bad Guys Want - Bowling for Soup
Does it stand up to being listened too without the video? ;)
1985 by the same band is pretty good too... In fact I'm very tempted to make Bowling for Soup a little richer and actually buy one of their albums!

Yeah its not too bad. It kind of snuck into the top 5 played as I put it in almost all of my playlists. They are probably my fave pop punk band since The Offspring (but only Amerciana and before - they release the same song over and over and over now :()

For me without doubt the following can go in my list, but like Andy the rest of the list would change...

Estranged - GnR (Back me up Gob)
Love is stronger than death - The The
Masterplan - Oasis
F**kin in the Bushes - Oasis (Turn it up loud!)
Karma Police - Radiohead

Looking at it, thats five! awesome

Karl Orff - O Fortuna
Incubus -Are you In
Ivy - Worry about you
SugarRay - Every Morning
Barry White & Lisa Stansfield - All around the world

Anything By Beethoven

Obviously I would be better listing each catergory and top 5 in there as I love classical to Hip hop. Only types I hate are Country and Western and Thrash Metal, Heavy Rock. YOu know where they aren't musicians just people who hit there guitars, or some acutally know a cord or 2 :)

You mean there are country and western guitarists who know two chords? ;)

this is all very nicky hornby/alan "fluff" freeman isnt it?

hows about anything by Leonard Skynard

hey winters the stone roses 3rd coming has arrived in the form of 'Kasabian' if you didnt know already - very good.

at 18 my top 10 would have been similar to scoobs and gobs with probably something a little heavier in there by Sepultura - perhaps 'Mass Hypnosis' however this may now be succeeded by 'just an illusion' by imagination - download it for a song that is so funky it wont fail to get your body movin brothers and sisters

hmm, well, I'll have to do a random top 5. In no particular order. I have about 6000 files on my comp and about 150 albums either in my room or at one of my relatives house still there from when I moved

Refused- Refused are F**kin' Dead (Shape of Punk to Come)- Largely because this was the point when they realised that they couldnt take on the largely pre-fabricated, money grabbing corporationalized "popular music"

Anti-Flag- You'll Scream Tonight (Their System Doesn't Work For You)- A good song, talking about subliminal messaging in advertising, and the way sh*t music is basically forced down our throats to make more money for some alreadyover-rich millionaire.

Nirvana- Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nevermind)- The song that made the world open their eyes to Nirvana, and grunge, not much else can be said!

Oasis- Go Let it Out (Standing on the Shoulder of Giants) and most songs on Whats The Story Morning Glory, and Definitely Maybe- Basically most of the good Oasis songs. Shame about Dont Believe The Truth :(

REM- Orange Crush (Green) Possibly one of the many great songs from a great long running band, with Michael Stipe in it! I like Orange Crush partly because it was dedicated to Kurt Cobain, who quoted a lot from it, apparantly. I like loads of other REM songs as well ;)

I had heard of them, hadn't listened to them until tonight (right now in fact). yes they are good, I'm struggling to see, I mean hear, the resemblance to The Stone Roses though...

I honestly couldnt say either! Even if there was a worldwide vote on it, I dont think anyone would agree, and O/T have you ever noticed that on TV when they say "as voted by you the viewers at home" no viewer has ever actually voted...... hmmm strange that

My favourite Album at the mo is Fused by Tony Iommi and Glenn Hughes, pure class!!!
