View Full Version : ACCESSING A LAN GAME FROM OUTSIDE THE NETWORK??

hey guys...
me and some friends have out computers networked on a lan.

we were wondering if it was possible for other people who dont live with us, to connect to our lan games ??

i dont see why not but i cant figure it out..

any help GREATLY appreciated.

No, it's not possible unfortunatly.

You would need to set up an Internet game on the computer connected directly to the internet, the LAN PC's could still connect as will your friends.

It is possible if you've got some proper firewall software (not the personal firewall stuff you get with anti-virus type things these days), or possibly one of those ADSL modem/router things with a built in firewall, because you can then port-forward from the firewall to the computer on the network that hosts the server, though the setup is a bit complex. It's far simpler and cheaper (proper firewalls tend to be a bit expensive), however, to just run the server on the machine hosting the internet connection like McB said - which is what we do.

Either way you need an internet connection, of course, and you'll struggle with anything less than ADSL.
