View Full Version : VIP Mod for CSS released tomorrow

Old school Counter-Strike players will remember a gameplay mode called "assasination mode" that randomly changed a member of the CT team into a VIP. The VIP player was only allowed the pistol he spawned with as his weapon. But, he also spawned with 200 armor. The misson in this game play style was simple: "Protect The VIP Team!". The CT's were to escort the VIP to a rescue zone to win the round. The terrorists objective was to kill the VIP. If they did, the round ended no matter how many other CT's were alive.

This game play mode, maybe more so than any other, demanded team play and co-operation. It was exciting to play and was a dream for those of you in to tactics and stategies. Unfortunately this game play mode died when Counter-Strike: Source was released. Valve for some reason decided not to include it in the "Direct Port" of Counter-Strike.

Would be cool (http://vipmod.punkassfraggers.com/) to get a server up and running :thumbs: It has 9 finished maps :D

Ohh god i loved oilrig it was a fantastic, map so many perches and places to go. It was incrediably balanced. man vip rocked as well. i loved being it :)

Indeed. It was my favourite map for a fun game of css. Letsat is totally right, in that it was not biased at all. You could have the cts escorting the VIP all the way, or allow the VIP to go rogue, and wait for the ensuing fire fight to make his run for the helicoptor :thumbs:

... loads of hidey holes, dark areas and roof tops, as well as a nice sniper point for the Ts or the CTs for that matter...

.. and the pool for a quick dip was always fun

sod teamwork the old oilrig was great for knifing people. and nading them. :) Also when you do get the VIp there you feel a bigger sense of accomplisment as it is hard work :)

I think this would be great, i hope lanarchy does put a VIP Mod server up asit sound like it would be a great laugh.

i had a little go on oilrig today and it is good but the only problem was that the server was laggy

cant wait - is the best thing for css. Oilrig was and will be the best map around. Was playing a version earlier and it was very similar, but also quite different, bringing new life to the game.

I played this earlier with FIDDY and Dre its great game play it adds an extra aspect to CSS like hostages and planting the bomb. As i said before i think it would be good if LNY put one of these servers up i know i would definatley go on it.

Well i go against all you and after playing it it didn't really impress me and id still say get a standard maps instead of this. If we got a server on this it would get boring after a while.

dre is right. it will get boring after about 2 monther or so.
but i say lets have the server untill it gets boring then maybe change it to a good custom maps server!!

Why was the last one not good? How many other custom maps have you tested? Trust me, there aren't that many out there...

what was wrong with the other maps you had on the old server? i think they were good maps.

So why are you saying we do another one, but stressing that this time it should be good, implying the one we ran up until a couple of weeks ago wasn't?

every time i go to play that server, the bots dont move and i cant even respawn. i think there is something wrong with the server?

yup, which we tried to sort several times - and we have no idea why, except that it was some of the maps on it.

Now, bones, do you have any idea how many maps were trawled through to find the 20 opdd that went on to the custom maps server? By me - a few hundred, and McBain probably trawled through a similar amount.

The problems with custom maps is that they can have unforseen repercussions omn the server, if they are not optimised properly, or if a steam update comes along and messes them around.

so are you going to ditch it? it sounds to me like its too much trouble to take care of.

We already have ditched it... which is why I'm now wondering which server you're talking about. As far as I know, the bots not moving issue was only a few maps which were removed a long time ago. (Infact I would be surprised if they got onto the main server in the first place). Someone mentioned a couple of glitches on the server when it was in Germany, but it had died off already by then :(
