STATEMENT OF INTENT

It has been brought to our attention through a claim this evening that the long awaited patch that has been officially announced to be released early 2006 is in fact not going to be as early as we anticipated.

As the majority of you are aware an official statement was released on 21st December 2005 to say that a patch is on its way for CoD2. Of course one of the most important features of this patch is the Punkbuster Anticheat Program. We have been told unofficially this evening through a undivulged source that in fact IW are having problems with Punkbuster and can't get it working with the DX architecture. So, the promises of early 2006 have now some what been shattered and it is very doubtful we shall get an official statement from IW regarding what is happening now.

The poster then goes on to offer some options -

We are now at a crossroads with CoD2. We can either:

1. Sit and wait in frustration until IW release the patch, whenever that may be and continue to pay our server fees with no control over players that are connected to our servers we are paying for.

OR

2. Give them a date to respond to their loyal community, in an Official capacity and update us on the situation within the reasonable timeframe of 1 week from today.

FAILING THAT

3. Stand together, and if IW fail to announce anything officially, or give us what we think is sufficient communication, we will give them until the 15th March 2006 in which to respond. That is the date of the Red Orchestra release, and when it will be available to buy in the shops.

Interesting...

Why isn't there another mass-server strike. I don't think the last one went ahead, but that was because it achieved it's aim IIRC.

There are a lot of major bugs with CoD2 atm (try banning somebody for instance), quite a few of which could be solved by PB, the community seems very unhappy, yet there is no fixed release date, just a vague "early 2006".

Which is now not the case... kind of the point of this post :)

It does seem a bit poor, and almost makes EA and Dice look organised ;)

So theres no date for an actual release and even if a strike was going to go ahead many wouldn't participate.

I think that a patch is needed bad, there are many bugs within the CoD2 game. A global strike would get IW to sort out the problem and organise themselves, but as pancho said, many would not go ahead with this strike.

i think all of the people that want this patch REAL bad have already stopped playing it abit as some people who i have talked to have said they are not going to play it much until the patch is released

The news below is about 3 days late, sorry i couldnt post it earlier :roll:

Hello,
Let me clarify what was meant by the initial response. Users who run with DX7 are likely to be called cheaters by some admins in the community because of PB screenshots that don't show fog, etc. Those are the types of problems that were referred to. There are no technical problems related to PB integration with *any* version of DirectX. We are fully ready to support COD2 and have been so for weeks. We are not aware of any existing bugs or issues with the PB/COD2 integration.

And another reply that was found on IWNation.com done by some of the Infinity Ward Co-operatives:

The information posted is fictional. The patch has not been delayed. Punkbuster has no issues or is tied into directx. The patch is still in testing and making great progress. I don't not have any information on date for its release. We are very concerend and devoted to making cod2 multiplayer an awesome experiance for everyone.

Just found this on the IWNation forum which got posted last night.

If you recall Infinity Ward working on a series of updates for Call of Duty 2 PC and Xbox 360, here are some further details they sent over: We're happy to report that this PC update is currently in testing and all is going well. In fact, we are testing these now and will be releasing them soon, so stay tuned. With regards to the update, here are a few things to look forward to:

* Punkbuster functionality
* Two new multiplayer maps.
* HTTP redirect in multiplayer, which adds an option for modders to send players to an external website to download their maps and mods.
* Repair of multiplayer exploits and minor bug fixes We're also putting finishing touches on the map editing tools for the game and will have those out very soon as well.
