It's interesting if you look at the forum stats (http://www.lanarchy.co.uk/forum/site_hist.php) you will see that although we have maybe a third the visitors to the forum we have a couple of months ago, those visiting are posting more than twice as much!
This month we are nearing 800 posts, the best in a month previously was 400 :)
Try and help spread the word about what a lovely friendly community we have going, see if we can't attract a few more visitors in here

Interesting....in the months April, May and June, the most posts we had in a month were 400. In the last three days...we've had 400 posts!

He posted in the UT thread earlier today (well yesterday, but I've not gone to bed yet) so he is still about, maybe he's not posting as much in a desperate attempt not to be ridiculed for his spelling and grammar? He could be reading a dictionary and going to extra english lessons?

Yes, we can...but how should I know if they are people coming back or new people, or if they are coming back becuase people are spread the word etc. My point is, how the smeg are we supposed to know when each of 70-80 guests visit our forum each day :?:

im not experiencing any major issues posting...
however, i have noticed that the most recent post in the events forum was made on the 1st of jan, 1970... and that certain topics have vanished (eg the lanarchy 13 one).
on a probably related note, the website has stopped displaying the list of recent topics of interest, and the upcoming events thingie - this may be caused by the knackered forum (im only guessing tho - i dont know really how the site is set up :p)
It does look a little poorly doesn't it?

Found there's a bug in the version of phpBB we're using to do with building the search index, this has the effect of slowing things down a lot when posting. I've applied the fix and run an update on the database to repair the damage done (which halved it in size!). Hopefully response times should be a bit more consistent now, especially when posting.

If you go over they will offer you more bandwidth for about
We got an e-mail saying we'd reached 80% of our bandwidth, which I don't think we've ever done before. No big files that I know of, the map pack is on a different host (although a mirror would be appreciated if you can... I'm hoping that it might get busy :? )

Nothing major I think, just a busy month. Our website bandwidth usage for March was 3.22Gb, this month it is at 3.46Gb as of midnight this morning (just web and FTP, that doesn't include email), so only about a 20% rise. And we hit 80% of our bandwidth limit when we were 77% of the way through the month so it's not like we're way over. It's only

(nudges McBain/Wints to check CPanel's Stats...)
IE is still around 55% with Firerfox catching up with around 35%
and the other 10%?? netscape? is that even still around?

[quote:819a9986db="McBain"]apparently we're the 3
wow, we are really moving in the right direction!! nice one people!!
So, we're around the 5 million mark at present, which is... well, average...
I headed over to Alexa to see if I could check what someone mentioned about it only recording IE visits, which IE being only 30% of our users.
Here's how it works out the rankings -
Alexa's traffic rankings are based on the usage patterns of Alexa Toolbar users over a rolling 3 month period. A site's ranking is based on a combined measure of reach and pageviews. Reach is determined by the number of unique Alexa users who visit a site on a given day. Pageviews are the total number of Alexa user URL requests for a site. However, multiple requests for the same URL on the same day by the same user are counted as a single pageview. The site with the highest combination of users and pageviews is ranked #1.
Alexa's traffic rankings are for top level domains only (e.g. domain.com). We do not provide separate rankings for subpages within a domain (e.g. www.domain.com/subpage.html) or subdomains (e.g. subdomain.domain.com) unless we are able to automatically identify them as personal home pages or blogs, like those hosted on Geocities and Tripod. If a site is identified as a personal home page or blog, its traffic ranking will have an asterisk (*) next to it: Personal Page Avg. Traffic Rank: 3,456*. Personal pages are ranked on the same scale as a regular domain, so a personal page ranked 3,456* is the 3,456th most popular page among Alexa users.
For more detailed information about Alexa's traffic rankings, please visit About the Alexa Traffic Rankings (http://www.alexa.com/site/help/traffic_learn_more).
Also -
Alexa's sample includes users of Internet Explorer, Firefox and Mozilla browsers. The AOL/Netscape and Opera browser is not supported, which means that sites operated by these companies may be undercounted.
So, if I understand this correctly, if a few of us install the Alexa toolbar, we'll likely shoot up a million or two? Not that it really matters unless we're looking to get sponsorship for the site I guess, but I'll get the toolbar for Firefox myself.
Check that, on looking they don't directly support Firefox...
If you have IE, the toolbar is here (http://download.alexa.com/index.cgi). Seeing as it only counts a maximum of one visit a day, I can always start IE just once to swing by the forum and then switch back to FF or Opera :)
**EDIT** OKay, I think this extension (http://www.quirk.biz/searchstatus/) does the Alexa thing.
Thanks to anyone that has installed the Alexa toolbar (and if you haven't, why haven't you!?!?) our overall rank is slowly improving. Although we're still just above 5 million, our 1 week average is under 1.4 million  So, if we can keep this up and pursade a few more to use the Alexa toolbar, we can probably get in the top 1 million by around March :)
A bit of an update, our 3 month average is now under 1 million :cheer:
Our average for this week is 92k! Awesome!
Our average today is.... 33k! :ele:
Now, I know there's still people out there without the toolbar, so we can go even higher! I have it on Firefox and it's really unobtrusive. I have it set to be on my status bar, bottom right. I actually like having it there, it's nice knowing how popular the different sites I visit are.
Iv just got this and it is an interesting little toolbar, and hardly takes any effort at all to install.
For those that don't have the toolbar installed (shame on you!) I've added a little Alexa widget, so you can watch us climb the interweb rankings, right before your very eyes!
We're now up to just over 300,000th, but our weekly ranking continues to hold around the 30k. If you want to help click the relevant link below to install the toolbar -
Internet Explorer User (http://download.alexa.com/index.cgi?mode=error&type=browser&amzn_id=)
FireFox User (http://www.quirk.biz/searchstatus/searchstatus-1.18.xpi)
Installed it a week or so ago and just got shark to install it yesterday :)
Took me ages to work out where Internet Explorer 7 had hidden it the toolbar!
i installed it, but it didnt work properly and my IE7 keeps crashing, so i uninstalled it and deleted it. :( not crashed since the delete.
You know all your problems with, podcast, Alexa you sure you don't have a more underlining problem?
I dont know, maybe i do, i have kaspersky upto date and it doesnt show up anything. Any other suggestions?

The Alexa toolbar tends to be quite unreliable IMX - it broke completely on a VMWare machine I had installed at work. You're far better off with Firefox and the extension :)
Rob
I don't know if you guys notices, but we're now inside the top 100k, at 91,589. Nice :)
We're still averaging around 40k on the weekly, which has brought us up to 75k now
We seem to be levelling out at around 47,000. That's not bad at all :)

1 McBain 17180 18%

Webstats will not even know if they are registered or not as far as I know, they just look at people that have visited, collecting info like what browser they use (over half use Firefox) what country they visited from (someone from Brazil swung by!) and other random stuff :)
I've just noticed, we have a new record users on the forum, beating when Michael Jackson died. Last Friday 9th April at 8pm ish, we had over 220 users online? Anyone know what happened then?
Hmm, I wonder if I deleted webstats already? I'll have a look around.
**EDIT** Well Google Analytics doesn't show the same numbers on April 9th...
To give you a few stats, in the last month we've had just under 6,000 visits, 1,300 of which have never been to the site before.
