Last nights steam update brought us a few things, including two new models, Arctic and GSG9 and de_dust received the HDR treatment -

They've also enlarged the crate sizes to stop people standing behind them, with their crosshair lined up perfectly at head height. Now standing behind the same crates means you can't see anything...

Other changes were - Improved lag compensation
Unified client and server player anims
Bot navigation files on disk are preferred over nav files embedded in bsps
Bots can use drop-down ladders

The New Models are Great. Arctic is just what it says....Arctic Fatigues. GSG9 is pretty much the normal skin with a Combat Helmet.

I know that me and some others have had the problem of not being able to see the new models. To fix it you have tio go in console and type cl_minmodels 0

I hate them. Now dust looks all 'pretty' Woop-de-fucking-do. It now runs like a bag of spanners on my PC :? (well OK not that bad, but what was 60 FPS is now nearer 30) I do hope they aren't going to do this to all the maps (they are aren't they?) Cos that'll stop me playing CSS completly

**EDIT to explain I'm not a fan of the lighting effects the HDR brings. Less realism in gaming please!

Makes No Difference to me....For the next Few Months I'll be running off and MX 440 so all these changes mean Diddly Squat.

I kinda agree with Scooby this crap is ruining CSS for me. I prefer it vanilla form. To many physics and other stuff just detract from gameplay. It is no wonder more people are still playing 1.6 or CZ than CSS because it is all about the actual gameplay then. I will be firing up CZ this weekend to remind me of how fun it was to play :)

Can't you turn off some of the extra stuff they've added to increase fps?

HDR is something ive never taken on basicaly because i get around 100 fps at the moment and if i turn it on i will have to lower the resoultion and i dont want to do that

I quite liked HDR, the screenshots look nice.
Unfortunately, HDR doesn't want to work now as CSS doesn't want to work in dx9 mode (well, it works fine until I go to play, when it reverts to dx7)

But I would turn HDR off for competitive play

I think this update is decent- they've done things to improved reg. There was a bit of a rumour that SrcTV would be fixed this month as well :D

Erm, turn it off then?  :)

I'm not a big HDR fan. It's turned on, but I think now it's on a map I play reasonably often, I may well do so.
