Helios myself and shark were just discussing our wide screen rotational monitors, key word being rotational....we thought it would be great fun to play css with a tall monitor rather than wide...also just typing this i've thought we should have tried gaming side ways....meaning start css and rotate the screen, but not telling the computer that the screen has been rotated...basically so your game ends up side ways
heres a few shots...

my question is:
what crazy things have you done to make css more interesting?

Nothing really crazy, but some agreeable things you can do with source here...

Customised HUDs are quite nice, as well as custom skins and models.
I know someone who plays on a wall-sized projector, which looked great too. The best thing anyone can do with Source is use the SDK, you can make some awesome things with it, abstract and crazy included.

A few really nice config change that I now permanently use are:

cl_crosshairscale "6000" (resolution dependant)
cl_crosshairusealpha "1"
cl_crosshairalpha "800"

Which should make the crosshair very small but completely opaque, as well as...

cl_minmodels "1"
cl_min_ct "3"
cl_min_t "3"

Which makes all the CTs use the SAS model, and all the T players use the Arctic Avenger model. (This is client side, so it only affects you.)
The variable in the command represents the model number in Source.

My personal favourite is cl_downloadfilter. You can use the variables below, as well as others, to restrict downloads from servers. No more annoying admin sounds!

"none"
"nosounds"
"all"

ROFL I have the exact same screen as Lisa but have never used the sideways option for anyting other than scrolling long pdf's while at Uni or reading our beloved LNY forums

BTW for all those wondering that is Sharky in the piccies, not Lisa - he just has long hair (hey, there's nothing wrong with long hair these days!!! No there isnt! Shhhhhh  )

Nice snaps Lisa - post those piccies of your case now

I am interested but I am crap enough without changing anything like screen size - it'll make me play worse (if thats possible)

Has it solved the artifcact problem then?

A way of re-phrasing Mitsukuu's first sentence could be:

"These are some things you can do with source here, not really crazy, but agreeable" :)

 you're full of poo, there no way on eath you could be crap!!

to be honest i dont think i've played css enough to know for sure but none so far....my case monitors the different temperatures of different parts of the machine so if somethings too hot or not functioning it will beep lots at me  my graphics card gets really hot when on css and it gets hot fast...it has been upto 65 degrees so far :S not sure what temerature it should be about...but it started beeping when it went above 60 so helios set the case to beep when it gets over 70 degrees instead... might go play some css now to test it a bit more...

yeh im going to try some of those source codes in console....do you know if you're allowed to have the models changed like that in matches?

Penguin

Yes, it's fine - I've been using just one model per side since they released the second model

Nah using those commands makes the game poo IMHO. I like the fact there are 4 models for each side, and have personally selected different models from csbanana for each, including the two latest  I have made my C all black in theme, while my Ts are colorued in different ways...

I like the opaque crosshair though, but I have been using cl_crosshairscale 4000 since about a month after I got CSS

If any of you didnt know, but cl_crosshairscale 6000/4000/2000 are all the same, You cant get them any smaller after 2000, i play with 6000, and its almost like playing with no crosshair at some points.

I have done the same as badboy, Terrorists are all different colours, but not too outrageous, and my GIGN and SAS are both Desert style, (Very good skins) the other G_ _ _ one is Black, and my Seal one is like a Forest camo colour, but nothing too outrageous to be calling me a cheat :P

hmm yeh but the reason im not going for those colourful models is because someone said they were illegal in matches and i cant be bothered to keep removing them every time i have a match.

-what are you on about? they do get smaller than 2000 i play at 3000 and i recently changed it to 6000 and it quite clearly got tiny.

ArTFuL DoDGeR
30-04-06, 09:20 PM
Hmmmm, not on my screen it didnt, it stayed exactly the same, and im sure they have a limit somewhere, if you type in cl_crosshairscale 30000000 i doubt it will vary much as the limit is probably around a few thousand, maybe your limit is a bit higher as you have a better graphics card, and mine is just at 2000 :)

It depends on your resolution

Faith, I'm a little concerned, in the second picture of you case, your webcam is around groin level... anything you're not telling us? How exactly did you raise the funds for this case? :?

Faith
30-04-06, 09:35 PM
My resolution is 1680 x 1050 :D
**EDIT**
- credit cards ;)
- was trying to get decent photos of my case, and as the flash on my digital camera wasnt doing it any justice i tried the webcam...but it made the light look less blue so i stuck with my digital one :)

As I said before, the crosshair scale is based on the resolution you play CSS. Just use what works for you, but if you just want the crosshair to be miniscule, enter a high number and it'll work fine.

There's a minimum and obviously maximum size the crosshair can be; it's always the same onscreen, but at different resolutions.

Maybe sharkys FPS was too quick for the camera, therefore when taking the picture it caught two frames joining each other.
