I am coming to Lanarchy for the first time and I'm really pumped, just have a few questions.
1) Do you guys do any organized CS Tournaments? like 5v5?
2) What games should I have installed prior to coming?

Yes, and whatever you want to play, respectively.
Take a look at the schedule for the day (http://www.lanarchy.co.uk/events/schedule.html)to get an idea of what we'll be playing. There is also a Competitions page (http://www.lanarchy.co.uk/events/competitions.html)which gives a little detail about the competitions that go on.
But basically, you can play anything you want, anytime you want
We have a website on the network at the LAN with a forum. It doesn't usually get used much, but maybe if the event fills, it will be a good way for people to arrange games and such.

I have hosted many LANS back in the states. I used to run http://www.tangolan.com. We had around 150-200 people a LAN so if you guys need any help. It'll be nice to meet you guys and maybe get a frag in here or there.
thanks man! I can't wait to face some euro competiton!
I'm tired of beating all these americans...

well....a WAN anyway :P
I don't see the appeal of those massive LANs (like I series) because as pointed out above....you may as well just play online...
Having said that, I guess the atmosphere is pretty good. But...LANs of around 20-40 are nice because you can properly get to know people, not really possible when there are 800 others!

yeah...but as if u wouldnt be happy if LANarachy events had 800 peeps in them, u'd be rich!!! :P
Ummm, no. I think I would have trouble fitting 800 people into St Marks actually...
Anyway, I didn't say I wouldn't want to make money off 800 people, I just said I wouldn't necessarily want to attend a LAN with that many...

If we had 800 people coming to a Lanarchy we'd be able to outsource the gameday management of it and have a CoF event while it was running :D
I went to the last I series event, i17. I think in total there was around 1000 people. It was brilliant. We (TCSUK and TNG) had a row (10 people). So we had the small group of people like at Lanarchy or UKLans, but also the 990 other people.
You could find a game of CS at 4am in the morning, if you really wanted. They were showing the finals of the comps on a big screen up in the bar so some of us went to watch the Generals match, was a good laugh even though I had no idea what the fuck was going on :P
It wasn't just about pissing around playing computer games, got to meet people that I've known for a while but never met. Was really good. Can't wait for i18 now :)

But surely thats what smaller LANs are all about too? I find them a little more personnal. How many times when you were playing CS were you able to shout abuse at the person you just shot? I would guess not much as they might be in a different room somewhere...

A distrabuted lan event with venues scattered acrross the UK linked by the internet to each other
Oh and on a more mundane note Wandsworth town hall (http://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/Home/CommunityServices/PublicHalls/default.htm) could hold 2-300 people

How'd you work that out? Sounds a bit high to me, we've only got 163 people registered on the forum after all.
After the first two events we generally have had between 2 and 8 new people at each event.

i had a look at ur past events page and added it up  why you think youve had less?
So you think everytime we held an event, all the people that came to the events had never been before? (And those numbers include staff!)

no but maybe including shoot club u will have had about 120 different ppl to events :? maybe? because some ppl will have brought friends which didnt register on the site.

Exactly. So wasn't this all about us holding an event for 300 or a 1000 or something? So if in 12 months we've not had even 120 different people...I doubt we'd fill out a massive event like that...
