View Full Version : Lanarchy 20 Competitions

29-06-05, 01:55 PM
I can confirm there will be some small prizes at Lanarchy 20 and so we will need some organised competitions. I say small because unfortunately we don't have a sponsor, so we have to fund them ourselves. If we get a few more sign up, we can afford a few more prizes. At present they are things like fan grills, CS key rings, RAM heatsinks and other little things. Hopefully everyone can come away with something :) For the overall winner, there will be a Gift Voucher

There will be 3 competitions in all, 2 team based and 1 individual -

Counter Strike Source

Teams of 4 will choose a home map and play through a knockout competition (hopefully double elimination) to decide who is the best. Each time you face an opponent, you play best of 12 as CT's on your home map and then best of 12 as T's on your opponents home map.

Unreal Tournament

A free for all death match over 30 minutes on a chosen standard map. If anyone has suggestions for the map, please let us know in advance on this forum. Suggestions/complaints on the day are too late.

Battlefield 2

A series of games will be played across the different standard maps (to be announced in advance - as above, place suggestions now). Squads of four will be formed and then different squads will be put together each time to make one big match for everyone to play in. Winning sides are awarded points, gold, silver and bronze medalists get points. Over a series of matches, people build up their own individual points. The better squads should help their teams get more victories and therefor score better.

Sounds ace mate now who wants to form a CS squad with me :)

Crippler, Skav, Mcbain and me :D

29-06-05, 02:18 PM
I'm game mate. Typically CoF have always sucked in our own competitions, but we could form a couple of [LNY] teams for CSS that might have a half decent chance. :) Of course Skav hasn't signed up yet, but Mincemeat has?

Long as we keep a leash on his roaming around tactics :)

Aha the penny drops!!! I loved to play Sven Co-Op for half life-my favourite Mod ever actually!

11-07-05, 10:27 AM
Can we have one more competition, one maybe to take place between the other major ones?

The competition would be a Aquamark / 3DMarks05 best computer of Lanarchy 20!!!!!

Yeah, no prices, just the title best computer of Lanarchy 20!
We can use Auamark 3 and or 3DMarks 05 to decide the winner.

11-07-05, 11:02 AM
my pc wont run 3dmarks, so i suppose i lose :(

11-07-05, 11:18 AM
Jus cus you wanna take the title - remove your OC, and i'm up for it

11-07-05, 11:23 AM
Well, OC or not, as long as the machine is stable. It has to be in the state that one runs games. You can not do something special to your machine just before running the benchmarks.

A lot of BIOS and video card now comes pre-OC. Most people will have a auto-OC in the bios for when the machine needs more juice. Is that OC? in a sence yes.

So I say as long as the way to run the games all trought Lanarchy 20 that's the way the machine should be tested.

11-07-05, 11:37 AM
Yeah mine won't run aquamark.

maybe we could have a prize for the chavist PC :)

11-07-05, 11:53 AM
What would that be? The one with the most lights and least power?

Like a Ford Focus with lights under the frame?

11-07-05, 11:57 AM
Mor elike a ford Fusion with neons and a body kit

11-07-05, 11:59 AM
with alloys also!

11-07-05, 01:54 PM
id win the most chaviest xbox ;D although im rewiring the lights atm

(no website atm so see attachment)

11-07-05, 04:27 PM
So I say as long as the way to run the games all trought Lanarchy 20 that's the way the machine should be tested.

So should we penalise people 1000 points on their aquamark score for every time their machine crashes?

11-07-05, 04:53 PM
LOL, penguin would be outta points by the end o it.

11-07-05, 04:57 PM
lol. Well, with your 9800 we shall see what hapens to my score. My 9200se is and was only meant to be a temporary card that "would do" until I could raise the cash to get a good card.

And the crashing was only due to dodgy (new) RAM- that when tested, didnt even past POST

11-07-05, 05:52 PM
So should we penalise people 1000 points on their aquamark score for every time their machine crashes?

Humm.. not a bad idea... or maybe if they crash due to there hardware, (not due to a server problem or something like that not related to the machine at all) they should be disqualified.

11-07-05, 05:54 PM
actualy all this point thing is to make sure that the machine is not only geared to run Aquamarks really really quick and nothing else.

I'll think of an other way of making this little competition work...

11-07-05, 07:07 PM
I couldn't even run aquamark on my 64-bit setup :-(

11-07-05, 10:02 PM
Why not, did it give errors?

12-07-05, 05:32 AM
As I recall it was a generic 'refuses to run' error, tried re-installing and that failed as well.

I did find a webpage that gave xp64 program compatibility but of course can't find it now. It said that (amongst others) aq doesn't work.
I also found that Daemon tools, my webcan and scanner didn't work - at that point I went back to 32-bit.

Here's the XP64 compatibility guide if anyone wants to know:

12-07-05, 10:13 PM
that reminds me.. I still have to buy BF2!!!

20-07-05, 04:49 PM
So folk know, we now have 2x

21-07-05, 12:03 AM
cool. I Have BF2 now!! Will it work at the Lan without an Internet connection?

21-07-05, 05:39 AM
Normally you need to set up an account (manage accounts in BF2) for online (ie non-singleplayer) play.

I have one for single player mode (no internet connection required) and one for online play.

I assume that if we have a BF2 server we will need to set up an account on the server before we can play on it.

21-07-05, 08:04 AM
Servers don't need accounts, you will just need your offline account. See the things to remember (http://www.lanarchy.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=2098) thread for how to set up an offline account.
