I love the look of this -

More long-term unemployed people could have their benefits cut - or stopped altogether - under new proposals.

Government figures show 950,000 people claimed Jobseekers' Allowance last month. About 100,000 of them spent six of the past seven years on benefits.

I realise there may be some out there that really do want to work and really are trying and they may suffer from losing some benefit, but I think there are far too many just mouching off the rest of us. I just don't think getting a job is really all that hard if you really want too.

BBC News (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/6187169.stm).

Next to try and stop all these people who are sick for month on end and claim benefit for that when they are perfectly fine...

Well I agree you should only get benefits for 6 months if you have not got a job by then you must have real problems. I have no sympathy for these idiots who just push my Tax bills up and cost the state to much money. Deport them to eastern europe. Or shoot them I have np with either.

I think they want to encourage responsible behaviour - not bleeding the system dry unjustifiably.

I guess they could also reduce the amount that every subsequent baby gets in benefit so that after, say three babies, people don't get any additional income.

It sounds good to me - I don't like the idea that people who can work refusing to even try.

I can't stand the lazy feckers either. A sister of one of my other half's friends is currently trying to get pregnant so she can get a larger council house. She's 20 with 2 kids already and has never worked. Her boyfriend is a little older and has never worked! How do these people manage to get benefits for all this time when people who find themselves out of work and genuinely need the help find it near impossible to get the same amount of help.

Anyone claiming benefits and fit to work should be made to work 1/2 to 3/4 of the week for the benefits they get. There are plenty of farmers out there too hard up to employ farm workers, plenty of roads need sweeping and plenty of real shite jobs no-one really wants to do.

The paper this morning made the point that the Poles ( for example) who came over when they joined the Eu have no problem getting jobs.
Ok, so they are mostly at the menial end of the jobscale, but they work and contribute to society!

I'd rather my taxes went on some decent education for our kids and some help for the old folks, and not wasted on the feckless.

My mum works at the DSS and sees this all the time. Cut the benefit and you'll stop the irresponsible breeding.

Oh, sorry you can't do that these days; it will probably breach someone's "human rights"
:(

My uncle doesnt have a job hes 26, I dont think hes kept the same job for over a year, if I get him can someone stone him for me, deserves it, lazy C**t.

Dont like benefits, im reluctant to take anything that I dont think I deserve and I dont see how these people just sit at home all day, doing sweet FA and we have to pay for it, pathetic politics.

Ok, so they are mostly at the menial end of the jobscale, but they work and contribute to society!

But people dont grow up in this country being told that our country needs vegetable pickers, and farm workers, we're all bought up in a society where people are thought to be a failure if they aren't a doctor or a lawyer.

If the government totally clamped down on illegal immigration and we had no 'legitimate' foreigners working picking our vegetable's, labouring, and doing the lower paid jobs, then we wouldnt all be bought up the way we are now, our society needs these people, because half of our lazy f**kers cant be arsed to get up and do it themselves. Atleast the majority of the working immigrants have some self respect and contribute to our society instead of sucking the life out of our governments (badly spent) funding.

Thank god somethings being done, about time!

lol you can not blame this on illegal immigration or legitimate foreigners, Us british are a bunch of lazy ****s for th emost part. Employers will pay minium wage for a pole to do the job over a brit, because a. the pole will work hard and not complain. the brit will sit around and moan and phone in sick. without the foriegners this country would have collapsed years ago.

I don't even think it is that people are taught that you have to be a doctor or so. It is mostly the idiots who dropped out of school, or generally never payed attention and were brought up in places that already claimed DSS. I say abolish the whole system.

Do what spain have, you have to work at least 6 months of the year to be able to claim DSS. IF you don't work you can't claim.

I always wondered why this benèfits were running for so long, esp woman getting knocked up at a young age just so they can get money, this to me is one of the sources of why there are so many chavs .

How do these people manage to get benefits for all this time when people who find themselves out of work and genuinely need the help find it near impossible to get the same amount of help.

This is what I don't understand. My g/f has been unemployed a couple of times over the past 4 or 5 years. The amount of trouble she had claiming just to cover her rent while she was looking for another job was ridiculous. The first time she put on the form that she lived with me and they refused to pay her rent. How they expected me to pay £900+ in rent each month, I don't know... The second time she didn't bother mentioning me and was able to atleast get help with rent until she found work again.

How can it be such hard work for someone who honestly wants to work (and has already been paying 5 years of N.I.) and it can be so easy for these chavs that can't be arsed?
